Prometheus purchases Beethoven and ZooBoom (Russia)

Jun 9, 2010

Prometheus Capital Partners announced the acquisition of controlling interests in the Beethoven and ZooBoom pet product retail chains. The merged company, which will operate under the 'Beethoven' brand, is the largest chain in Russia with forty stores in Moscow, St. Petersburg and regional cities. Combined revenue of the two chains was $53 million ( EURO44.5 million) in 2009.

The merged business operates in two store formats. Larger (400-800 sqm) discount outlets offer stand-alone destination shopping, while medium-sized (100-300 sqm) venues are conveniently located in shopping malls. In addition to high quality merchandise such as pet food, medicine and hygiene products, Beethoven will continue to develop a line of pet care services.

Beethoven was founded in 1993 and currently has 11 large format stores in Moscow and the Moscow Region. ZooBoom was founded in 2001 by Valta Pet Products, another wholesale operator, and currently has 29 medium format stores in Russia.
