Quaker Pet Group Acquires Watson’s Senior Pet Supplies

Aug 15, 2011

Quaker Pet Group of New York reported today that it has acquired Watson's Senior Pet Supplies for an undisclosed sum. It marks the company's third acquisition in just over a year.

Watson's Senior Pet Supplies manufactures products for aging pets, including the Bottom's Up leash, which is designed to improve the mobility of senior pets with physical challenges.

The acquisition coincides with the launch of Quaker Pet Group's new Silver Tails senior pet line. The line includes items designed to improve circulation in older animals as well as provide dietary assistance, bonding and pampering. It is expected to be available by the end of August.

The Bottom's Up leash will be available to pet specialty retailers as part of the Silver Tails collection. It will also continue to be available to veterinarians. Other products moving forward are the K9 Seatbelt and Harness.

Arnie Costell, president and founder of Watson's Senior Pet Supplies, will stay on as director of veterinary sales for QPG.

"Watson's' pet product expertise, innovation and passion for improving the lives of senior pets and Mr. Costell's impeccable reputation among veterinarians extends QPG's commitment to the ever-growing market of aging pets," said QPG's president and chief operating officer Neil Werde. "Bringing innovative products that focus on quality of life and a new platform of sales opportunities in the influential veterinary channel strengthens our momentum for aggressive growth."

Watson's is the third company Quaker Pet Group has acquired in the last 13 months. Quaker Pet Group acquired New York Dog in July 2010 and the Sherpa Pet Group in February 2011.
