Fressnapf Tiernahrungs GmbH has acquired a majority shareholding in the French firm City-Zoo. City-Zoo's turnover in fiscal 2003 was EUR 14.2 million, from ten eponymous shops with an average selling area of 1100 m2. The shops are located in Annemasse (near the Swiss border), Grenoble, Dijon (Burgundy), Orléans (on the River Loire in central France), Angers and Nantes (in the West) and in Cabriès, Marseilles, Montpellier and Toulouse (in the South). City-Zoo has a total of 150 employees.
The new Fressnapf subsidiary's master franchiser and CEO will be its former owner Mathieu Bonnier, a veterinary surgeon who founded the specialist animal business in 1993. The shops will gradually be switched over to the Fressnapf concept and rebranded as "Maxi Zoos".
